One morning the governor decided to legislate against joy.

In solemn, stiff-necked agreement,
the masses said
this happiness thing
it is bad for us.

Laughter leaves us exhausted and swooning
love hurts our hearts
and as for sex, well!
Might as well rename it ‘death’.

Dancing was banned as a precaution, and soon
followed discovery, jokes, and
holding babies for too long.

The world is a terrible place, said the priests
it is not appropriate to be happy.

Funny pages in papers were replaced with
photographs of the recently-deceased
as a reminder.

With each new wave of legislation it became easier
to suppress happiness;
after all, there was care taken to be sure

I stepped into the woods and bared my breast
and I said hey wolves and monsters,
what are you waiting for, there are no traps
no hunters any more; just you and me and
the carpet of needles on the forest floor,
I stepped into the woods and opened my mouth
and I sang hey you vicious bloody carnivores,
come here and tear my lying tongue out,
sink your teeth into my veins, I will stand
and I will take the pain;
but the shadows were silent, and the forest
remained a grave. Seems the monsters
won’t take you when you misbehave.

I stamped my nails with a pattern from Bundle Monster plate BM-210 and then realised, as I was adding a glittery topcoat, that I’d given myself  CUBIST VAGINA MANICURE. :/ I like vaginas and I like Cubism, but I’m not sure they belong in combination on my nails.

So many of Holly’s pictures look post-apocalyptic. I like.

As a fairly new analogue photography addict, I have an increasing collection of photo prints and very little room to store them. (I live in a space only marginally bigger than a cupboard.) And since I’m not quite that world-renowned photographer capturing something breathtaking in every frame (yet) I imagine that trying to sell the prints would result in a drop in self-esteem and no increase in storage space.

But then, armed with the knowledge that Carl Sagan makes everything better, I had the idea of using the prints as fabric on which to stitch quotes from the book Cosmos. And so here are the beginnings of my little art project, Postcards From The Cosmos.

this is really cool. It’s like Hipster Sagan but done with actual love and art :D

Three of these are on my wall in a row and they look amazing. I love this trend for Physical Tumblr Graphics and support it with my entire being.

That’s me at the bottom left! The grey and red ones are in frames in my bedroom. Seriously gorgeous work, Hollyface.

ihavecake and I did a double exposure collaboration: she shot the roll of film, rewound it, and then I shot with it in a different camera. We had no idea what sort of photos the other was taking. Pure serendipity combined Rose’s sunset picture with my shot from the British Museum to create this wondrous image of a farting statue. It’s not the most artistic or aesthetically pleasing of our doubly exposed photos, but gosh it makes me giggle.

I love this picture. It makes me happy.
